Who We Are
Twelve Prairies is a nonprofit organization rooted in Indigenous cultural values. We strengthen our community by bridging the gap between generations—deeply honoring our elders while reconnecting youth to their heritage and collective community. We firmly believe that the true experts are the people living within the community itself, and we are dedicated to uplifting and supporting them to drive lasting, meaningful impact.
"Honoring our past. Understanding our present. Preparing for our future."
Twelve Prairies / Milkweed Market
Milkweed Market is the only source of funding that Twelve Prairies has currently. Proceeds fund clothing for clients of neighboring organizations, the Inked Inheritance project, The Brave Hug project, and direct neighbor support. We are grateful to the for-profits that have donated items for resale at our storefront.
Why the name Milkweed?
The milkweed is more than just a resilient native plant—it represents our deep roots and our responsibility to the land and each other. At Twelve Prairies, we believe everything native to our community belongs here and deserves to thrive. By weaving together sustainability, zero-waste living, and upcycling with a profound commitment to honoring our elders and nurturing our youth, we are cultivating lasting peace. Through our partnership with Milkweed Market, we are proving what is possible when community intention meets action. Together, we demonstrate the transformative power of a simple belief: "I CAN."
